We hope you can join us on Sunday from 7.30pm to 10.30pm at our Welcome Barbecue, in the ambience of Bruce Hall's open courtyard, entertainment by one of Australia's best traditional bush bands, Franklin B Paverty. This is an opportunity for you to meet with your fellow scholars and have a chat with many of the presenters.

The Welcome Barbecue is free-of-charge and will include meat, chicken, sausages and salads (vegetarian food on request, when registering) as well as dessert, wine, beer and soft drinks.

Please register for this event when completing the registration form.

Address: Bruce Hall, ANU campus, Daley Road.

Dinner, Friday 11 December 2009

After a hectic week of logic, we all need to unwind a bit. Get to know your fellow participants in a relaxed atmosphere over dinner at one of our local Asian restaurants.

This social event is not covered by the registration fee but it isn't terribly expensive. Please register for this event when completing the registration form.

Summer School picnic

Excursion, Saturday 12 December 2009

The Summer School's tradition is to visit the Tidbinbilla Nature Reserve and NASA's deep space tracking station so on the Saturday we'll treat ourselves to an excursion out of Canberra. The bus will depart from the ANU campus at 10.30am and return around 6pm.

Tidbinbilla Nature Reserve is in the mountains, around a 40-minute scenic drive south of Canberra. We can expect to come across kangaroos, wallabies, koalas and emus which run wild. The more energetic among us can head off on one of the marked walking trails.

During our visit to Tidbinbilla we will also visit the deep space tracking station, one of three in the world that track NASA's inter-planetary missions.

We'll treat ourselves to a picnic lunch, either at the tracking station or at one of the picnic sites in the reserve.

This social event is free to participants.
